Benefits for Jordan

Oil shale projects in Jordan will deliver a wide range of socio-economic benefits for the Kingdom, most importantly helping to reduce Jordan's reliance on costly fuel imports and provide the country with increased energy independence and security.

  • 5,500 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent jobs
  • Increased energy independence and security
  • Inward investment
  • Increasing national wealth

5,500 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent jobs

APCO´s oil shale fired power plant will create 5,500 jobs in the construction phase and 1,000 jobs in the operation phase. This will give a substantial economic boost to the area. Housing and infrastructure will be developed, providing further indirect jobs to the local population. Both direct and indirect jobs mean more tax revenues for the treasury, which can be used for social initiatives by both the local municipality and the government.

Increased energy independence and security

An economically viable and sustainable oil shale energy industry will contribute significantly to Jordan´s energy independence by reducing the country's dependence on foreign energy imports

Inward investment

APCO´s oil shale fired power plant will result in inward investment of approximately JD 2.1 billion into the Jordanian economy., These investments and related services will have a multiplier effect on the economy, creating further jobs and business opportunities down the line, in addition to increasing government revenues to enable it to increase spending on desperately needed public services such as healthcare, education and housing.
